The bad art collection

by Miles Benson

What is this book about?

This book is a 16-page one-shot comic. According to Jhonen Vasquez, the writer/artist for the book, a friend in high school was the unwitting reason The bad art collection was created. She always asked him for comics. But he couldn’t draw as fast as she requested. Thus, he tried to create the worst abomination of a comic that he could, the result? The bad art collection.

Why should you read this book?

Jhonen would probably be rolling on the floor laughing somewhere that someone is “reviewing” and suggesting to others that they should read The bad art collection. But, whatever…it makes me laugh and I want to share it with others.

If you like misanthropic and pessimistic themes used for the purposes of parody, satire, and scenes meant to shock the viewer then you will like The bad art collection.

For most part, it seems Jhonen will draw panel to panel and play the story out until he comes to the end of the page. Typically they’re insane and violent characters who have no back story they just serve as places holders for Jhonen to repeat references to moose, meat, bees, chihuahuas, monkeys, tacos, pigs, cheese, morbid obesity, and dookie.

I really don’t know how to “sell” this book. So I’m going to post my favorite pages from the book and let you decide if it’s something you’d want to read. (Click both images to see two different strips, if you’re using an RSS reader please go to the actual page).

I Thank you for the blog christening, they help me know who is listening↓
  • I have enjoyed this. more like it please. But I will not buy this book because I have already bought it and buying it twice would be stupid. How could you be so stupid? I will make noise at you that sounds undesirable.

  • I’m glad you liked. The next Jhonen won’t be for a while unfortunately. I’m going through my comic boxes alphabetically. :( Sorry

Other comical one’s to come though. Stay tuned, friend.
