The fact that a child knows more about what love is than I makes me both happy and sad.

Love really does sound great doesn’t it Grover?

It really kind of pisses me off to think that this was happening around this time last year. And that there hasn’t been anyone since.

A woman I've never met, driving home from work one day made of video of herself that has me vexed and hopeful

Recently, I came across a website which, in a way, I really had no business being on. (The website gives make-up tips). But, I browsed through because the girl who was giving the tips is really cute. Her name is Kandee Johnson, her professional/online moniker is “Kandee The make-up the artist.”

Well, needless to say I developed a crush on this girl and subscribed to her different blogs to find out more about her personality and see what all the hoopla was about regarding her online following.

I came across this video she put together one day when she was driving to her job or back from it, I don’t know which. And although, I know too many of you who are regular readers of Now is not the Rhyme, may not find this video that interesting, but, watch it anyway. It inspired me so I hope it inspires you too.

The reason why I’m taking the time to write about Kandee and these videos she does is because she defies every common learned knowledge I have about women as pretty as her.
Based on her videos and what she writes, she just seems so…pure. She seems so…genuine.

I feel that so many women I’ve met, have been with, and know, were/are so negative…even when they seemed like they wouldn’t be that way. So many of them have been bitchy, negative, or hardly smile or laugh, mean spirited, vengefully opinionated, cocky, fake, conniving and hurtful. And when I saw Kandee’s video, it was a breath of fresh air. And when you think about it, this speaks volumes in two ways…

That really goes to show how many women I know who aren’t positive or hurtful that a single youtube video from a woman who I don’t know a thousand miles away could inspire me more than many of the women in my life have.

Who the hell am I letting into my life?

I’m no saint, there’s no doubting that, I have to be honest here. But, that’s just it. I like that she is. I like that a girl that attractive who lives her life like she does and has the kind of personality that she does actually exists! The girl is like Wonder Woman. She exudes kindness and positivity in being true and a nice person while maintaining vanity! I feel like I never see this! Seriously, I feel like, a woman like her, or at least who she seems to be at least is super rare.

In a world where people follow, emulate and are interested in Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, Britney Spears, Daisy De La Hoya and (insert female celebrity bad girl); it’s no wonder many of the women I know are the way they are.

I’m really astonished at how perplexed I am by her and her personality because it’s really making me feel horrible about who it is I choose to associate with.

The below video isn’t the only one you should watch. She’s got a whole bunch. You can see her sites here, here, and here.

Kandee, is you do happen to read this. You’re remarkable in so many ways, thank you for being who you are and what you do, never stop.

The question isn't who pioneered the idea, but, I suppose...can we hope for more of these?

Personal friends of mine know that Sam Kieth is my favorite author/artist of all time. Even fellow friends and fans of Now is not the Rhyme should know that I am by now. So when I came across the below video I got really excited because this motion comic idea that Marvel has isn’t new. Because it’s been done before, by my man, Sam Kieth. Which is, (what shouldn’t surprise you), also my favorite movie of all time. It’s called The Maxx. (You can actually watch installments of the video online for free on MTV, where it used to air.)

The video below, alas, is not a Sam Kieth project. But it does resonate within me some warm heartfelt feelings I have towards The Maxx and the early pioneers of motion comics.

Marvel’s first motion comic installment stars the character Spider-woman. Here is a brief synopsis for the really cool trailer you are about to watch.

Jessica Drew is back on Earth. But what’s left of her life? Take a peek at what’s in store for the SPIDER-WOMAN Marvel Motion Comics series right here. One of the most highly anticipated series in Marvel history, the SPIDER-WOMAN Motion Comic by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev will make its world premiere at San Diego Comic-Con.

In a world where everybody had to look so perfect all the time, this guy wasn’t. What he was doing wasn’t. The point is, it’s not the hilarity of the video that hooked me. It’s the confidence. The courage. The complete lack of shame. The comfort and genuine honesty. The up-front-ness of being able to just dance there and tell the world: Yeah this is how I dance and this is how I’m going to dance the whole show. I really don’t care how I look. Or what you think. So deal with it. He was assaulting the world by assaulting himself. And even if the guy wasn’t loving every moment, the ability to smile, to fake his way through this, that would be even more admirable.

Watch the video to see what I mean:

The best part is right before the first minute mark. When guy #3 joins the group. It starts with just a crazy guy dancing and then maybe one other crazy guy. But then guy #3 comes in and starts a movement!

This video, is a metaphoric way of showing how literally, everything, gains popularity. I love that someone captured this on film.

Discussion: Do you promote what sets you apart? Or do you think you’re seduced by imitation? (Please leave your comments in the comments section below, do not message or IM me with your answers)

One of my favorite films of all time is The Nightmare before Christmas. Since that movie I have been obsessed with stop motion and I have stopped at nothing to try and create something like it. Many attempts but to no success as of yet. I was inspired to post this video because of Tim Burton’s Coraline movie, which I still haven’t seen and honestly don’t have much desire to see. Mainly because I feel like it would pale greatly in comparison to his earlier works such as the video below. Please enjoy!

Breaking the fourth wall, harmonizing animation with music and culture, and uniting two iconic characters made for a great cartoon that will remain timeless.

I thought this video was pretty amazing and wanted to share it.

One of my favorite memories growing up was watching Donald Duck cartoons. I think I liked Daffy Duck more because he was funnier and had more an edge to him. But something always brought back to Donald.

I remember seeing the following video a long long time ago and probably not appreciating as much as I do now. I really liked it when they broke the fourth wall and showed the artist draw the character on screen. The watercolor effects and the music harmonize so well. Donald is always portrayed as so ignorant but he always ended up being the open minded character. Which made him perfect to star in this cartoon where he goes to Copacabana Beach in Brazil.

I think the thing I loved so much about this, was that it wasn’t technically considered children’s programming when it was made but it wound up being that way. This cartoon is so timeless that if you put this on T.V. now it would be just as effective if not more so.

Enjoy!

Do you steal music or movies? Do you not feel bad about it? Good. Then watch this. Because I think you might like it.

“If you want to stop piracy, The way to stop it is by competing with it.” – Steve Jobs

The Pirate’s Dilemma, theorizes about media in 2009, but instead of examining the technology itself, it looks at the people who use the technology. It focuses on piracy, and it presents the fact that instead of trying to fight piracy, companies need to learn to embrace it and find a way to improve their product based on the consumers desire to ’steal’ content.

Okay, look…

I do not wish harm on anyone. But I have such a low tolerance for the mis-use of authority. Whether it be your boss at work, police officers on the job, soldiers on the field, or people in government branches.

I am happy these officers were attacked. It’s fucking ridiculous to think people should put up with this shit.

I hate to sound so extremist, but this is why America sucks. I want to live in a country where people actually fight back. Where the government is more afraid of it’s people than it’s people afraid of it’s government. Instead of people standing on the side lines.
