Tim Burton’s Vincent
by Miles Benson

One of my favorite films of all time is The Nightmare before Christmas. Since that movie I have been obsessed with stop motion and I have stopped at nothing to try and create something like it. Many attempts but to no success as of yet. I was inspired to post this video because of Tim Burton’s Coraline movie, which I still haven’t seen and honestly don’t have much desire to see. Mainly because I feel like it would pale greatly in comparison to his earlier works such as the video below. Please enjoy!
Discussion: Have any of you seen Coraline? What did you think of it? What’s your favorite Tim Burton film? (Please leave your comments below, do not message or IM me with your answers)

Tim Burton did not make Coraline…
Henry Selick did. Harry Selick was the director of one of The Nightmare Before Christmas, and is responsible for much of the stylistic elements seen in it that Burton continues to emulate and use in other films.
That being said, I’m a huge fan of Burton and Selick’s works, both independently and together, but am abstaining from seeing Coraline (or at least from paying a million dollars to see it in a theater) because I reallllly enjoyed the book and I can’t bear to see it be ruined on the big screen. I’ve heard it was great, but I just cant wrap my mind around it.
Ta!

scratch the words “one of” in that first sentence. my editing skills blow.

I stand corrected.
I really love Neil Gaiman’s work. But for some reason Coraline just really didn’t interest me that much so I stopped reading. I think I’m going to try reading it again though.
I had to think about who Henry Selick was for a second. I immediately thought Tom Selleck and I was like who is this girl and why does she think Magnum PI directed Coraline. In fact I am the idiot.

I always picture Tom Selleck too, and like to imagine him making these movies.

You need to update the art on the top of your page because that guy has tonsils!

I saw Coraline a few weeks ago. I was really impressed. Visually, it was incredible. They garden scene and circus scene was awesome. The story was different too. Very much like a Tim Burton story, but a little more fucked up. The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride were movies that were never really scary, but if I had been a child and seen Coraline I probably wouldn’t be able to sleep for weeks. Definitely an entertaining movie though.

Okay /off the soap box.
If you were going to see Coraline, I would suggest 3D. The world is vivid and lush, there are a few changes from the book but its overall very very well done. I was most pleased as a HUGE fan of Neil Gaiman.

MILES!
I am ridiculously happy that you’ve watched Vincent! It’s one of my favorite Burton short films, and it makes me :( that many people haven’t come across it. Have you watched Frankenweenie?? It’s not stop motion, but it’s a very dramatic short film by Burton about a franken-pup.

No! I will not update the art at the top! I miss my tonsils. I wish I never had to get them out! It’s not my fault my flesh decided to be stupid and get diseased. In art form, they stay. That is how I wish to remember them.
Okay, I’m really glad I’m not the only one who thought Tim Burton was associated with Coraline. Where the hell did I get this from? I’m such a snot.
FRANKENWEENIE!! HAHHAHAHA Holy hell…I haven’t thought about that movie in years! Who watches black and white when they’re a kid?! Did you follow Frankenweenie with Grapes of Wrath? Then a nightcap with Nosferatu? :)

A LOTT of Twilight Zone and Gregory Peck as a kid. They’ve completely shaped my worldview, so I associate absolutely no childhood nostalgia toward Disney. But once I hear Rod Sterling “nee nur nee nooo, nee nur nee nooo, you’re traveling through another dimension…” it gives me the chilllssssss–and maybe a tear to my eye. Nosferatu? I’m his Queen of the night, roar.

Oh, and no need to update the art anyway. That’s just your dangly uvula thinger.

I think Tim Burton should make a new film called: “Gregory,” young Jenni Lee dreams of being just like Gregory Peck and loses herself in macabre daydreams which annoys her mother. :)

Tim Burton has a unique style when making his movie. I love Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands.`*~
