What if?: We never left the tall grass.

An introspection into the personality of animals.

I feel as though everything that happens is actually supposed to happen. Not necessarily from ‘fate’ or ‘destiny,’ more that it’s about the universe acting in a way that it needs to. What that need is, I cannot determine, I would like to think that it’s an instinct to survive.

Well, I watched a documentary the other day and the narrator presented the idea that we can have an idea as to where we evolved from, because we can look into remains and retrace our steps. But we still will never know what our ancestors thought that made us evolve mentally. The narrator continued to say, what if humanity as we know it, was a fluke? What if our mental capacity and conscious thought were an accident? What if looking up at the stars or looking at our reflection in a stream and wondering about your existence wasn’t necessarily supposed to happen. As far as we can discern we have yet to find any other creature anywhere on Earth or in the known universe who shares commonalities with our capacity for reason or consciousness.

This really got me thinking, and that’s when I remembered reading the article below and watching the following youTube video.

In the video you see a crow helping out a cat. Feeding it, nurturing it, playing with it. It’s breaking the rules of what we know to be the animal kingdom, the food chain, and all that jazz. This is all really interesting to me because maybe this is the start of a ‘fluke’ in other species.

Same thing with the article: http://kungfurodeo.com/2008/01/08/the-worlds-oldest-profession-now-certified-as-actual-oldest/

These may not be the best examples to bring my point home, but It’s all I had.

My point is, what if these are the early acts of various species beginning to show commonalities that were similar to our early acts during our evolution?

If we for a moment consider humanity’s culture to be a fluke, what if we inadvertently inspired a fluke within other species as well? What if all these century’s where we as humans were building a civilization, we didn’t notice that the animals around us are observing and adapting new forms of thought based on our actions throughout history?

Is it possible we’re halting evolutionary progression in other animals by the subjectification and the domestification of the animals we bring into our homes and corral into meat packing plants?

And if so, what kind of impact is this having on our world?

But that’s just it, what if all this is supposed to happen? What if the directions the world goes in are the one’s nature needs in order to sustain itself?

But if we claim to be ‘intelligent,’ how is it then that our good judgment and sound thought continues a biased rule over the very species that are proving to show signs of consciousness and early signs of human traits as well as ‘civilized culture’?
